AOC: ‘Expand the court.’
October 27, 2020
After Republicans in the Senate confirmed the nomination of Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court Monday night, many progressive Democrats were upset that the opposing party would push through a nominee weeks before the presidential election and called for measures to shift the now 6-3 conservative majority on the nation’s highest court.
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-NY, says it’s time to “Expand the court.” Court-packing has been a major point of contention ahead of Tuesday’s election. And former Vice President Joe Biden has yet to answer to whether he intends to do just that after harshly criticizing the President’s decision to nominate Justice Barrett.
Despite Biden’s silence, Rep. Ocasio-Cortez was clear that Democrats should be just as aggressive as Republicans right now in pushing their agenda through.
“Republicans do this because they don’t believe Dems have the stones to play hardball like they do,” Rep. Ocasio Cortez added. “And for a long time they’ve been correct. But do not let them bully the public into thinking their bulldozing is normal but a response isn’t. There is a legal process for expansion.”
