Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D-N.Y.) has dispelled rumors that he might become former Vice President Joe Biden‘s Attorney General assuming that the Democratic nominee becomes president. Cuomo, who has become a household name during the pandemic, once almost joined the Democratic presidential primary and was rumored as a potential vice-presidential nominee for Biden.

“I have no interest in going to Washington,” Cuomo told NBC’s ‘Today Show’ on Monday. “I said when this COVID situation started, just so I had total credibility with the people of the state, I’m not running for president. I’m not running for vice president.”

The rumor that Cuomo might be nominated by a potential Biden administration began with a Sunday piece by Axios, which cited “some Democratic donors in Cuomo’s orbit.”

Additionally, the report claims that “Democrats are so convinced that New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo could be considered for Joe Biden’s attorney general that aides at the National Governors Association, which Cuomo chairs, are looking into contingencies for replacing him.”

When asked about potentially leaving the Empire State, Cuomo stood firm. “I’m a New Yorker,” he said. “I said I would serve as governor, and those rumors, those are only from people who want to get me out of New York. I don’t know why but that’s where that’s coming from.”
