Attorney General William Barr was aware of federal investigations into President-elect Joe Biden’s son, Hunter Biden, before the presidential election, and worked to ensure the information was not released to the public, The Wall Street Journal reported Thursday.

According to the Journal, a person familiar with the matter said Barr had known about investigations involving Hunter Biden’s business and financial dealings since at least this spring “and worked to avoid their public disclosure during the heated election campaign.”

Hunter Biden is also implicated in a broader international financial investigation by federal prosecutors in Manhattan, a person familiar with the case told the Journal. That probe has been going on for at least a year. However, Hunter Biden was never a specific target for criminal prosecution, according to the Journal.

Trump tweeted Thursday, “Why didn’t the Fake News Media, the FBI and the DOJ report the Biden matter BEFORE the Election.”

This new information comes the same week that Hunter Biden confirmed that the U.S. Attorney’s office in Delaware was investigating his taxes.

Hunter Biden released a statement following the investigation saying, “I take this matter very seriously but I am confident that a professional and objective review of these matters will demonstrate that I handled my affairs legally and appropriately, including with the benefit of professional tax advisors.”
