Congressman Brad Schneider (D-IL) has come up with the Domestic Terrorism Prevention Act, which would allow for “more monitoring of domestic terrorism movement.”

This is in reaction to the Capitol Hill riot, the duration of which was a few hours on Jan. 6. In response, members of the new Biden administration have suggested that domestic insurgents, specifically those who stormed the Capitol, need to be held to the same standards as international terrorists like ISIS.

These Americans are being called “religious extremists, authoritarians, fascists, bigots, racists, nativists, and even libertarians.” Trump has been blamed for these individuals, as have “those who continue in the halls of Congress.”

Glenn Greenwald joined Carlson to discuss this new war on American “insurgents,” saying that “every group he listed… essentially he’s defining the insurgency as anyone who has an ideology other than neo-liberalism, other than the ruling class view that is about to congeal and merge with the power of the state.”

“And what they’re talking about explicitly,” Greenwald said, “is using the tools that they used to take ISIS off the internet, the tools that they used to destroy Al Qaeda, they’re talking about it as a second war on terror. And that first war on terror, no matter what your views were originally at the beginning of 9/11, ended up eroding not civil liberties not just elsewhere but here as well.”

A domestic war on terror, Greenwald said, would be “designed to criminalize any oppositional ideology to the ruling class. There is literally nothing that could be more dangerous and it’s not fearmongering or alarmism to say it.”

He noted the new bill pending from Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) that would “simply take the existing war on terror legislation… and amend it to say that we can now do that within the United States.”

The question becomes “who will stand up in opposition to this,” and that answer is not quickly forthcoming. The establishment politicians in both the Democrat and Republican parties are similarly in favor of these new authoritarian dictates.

These new actions come after a fall that saw conservative news outlets and pundits banned and deplatformed from social media sites, as well as the conservative social media platform Parler removed entirely by Apple, Google, and Amazon.
